Pinterest will cause you to pull out the glue and scissors every time. I am on Pinterest at least once a day and I will pin projects that seem like fun all the time. A few weeks ago I saw a pin of a shamrock mosaic. The pinner had used square cuts of paper to make their pin. I decided to use up some of my scraps of paper and use all kinds of cuts, not just squares.
I found a shamrock outline online and printed it out. I very carefully cut along the lines to create my canvas. Then I pulled out all of my leftover scraps from St. Patrick's Day projects.
I must admit that while I was cutting pieces of paper to fit next to other pieces of paper, I had the thought that this project would turn into a Pinterest fail. But, I had committed, so I kept on cutting and gluing.
Once I glued all of my papers down, I flipped my shamrock over and began cutting away the excess papers. Once I did, the back of the shamrock didn't look so bad.
And then I turned over my shamrock! I pulled out the Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Walnut Stain to outline the shamrock. Then we were cooking with grease!
I actually like my shamrock mosaic work of art! It's something you can do to use up scraps. If you want to go a bit more "mosaicy" you can actually leave some white or black space and create a more traditional mosaic craft.
I prefer my more quilt like mosaic. Why don't you try a few and let me know which one you like best!
