Making Birthday Cards From Your Scraps
I don't know how often it happens to you but I often get caught without a birthday card handy. You'd think a paper crafter would do better but I don't. So this weekend when I was cleaning up my craft table, I decided to whip up 4 birthday cards to add to my birthday stash.
I do keep ready-made card bases on hand. Mine are 4" X 5 1/2". I know that if I want to make mattes for my cards, I need to cut them a hair smaller. But I wanted to make 4 easy cards. I went matte-less!
I made the decision a while back not to have a lot of stamps. So, I have a few go to stamps for birthdays. They have sentiments and pictures that say everything that I need to say.
The first two cards that I made were representative of food (of course). I made a cake on a cake stand card and a cupcake card.
For the first cake stand card I used up perfectly cut pieces from 4 sheets of scrap paper. I graduated the length of each piece so that they would look like a cake! I also added very pretty buttons to make the cake plate.
For the cupcake I used real cup cake liners. I cut the middle out and shaped them into a smaller cupcake size. I cut a "chocolate cake top" out of brown paper and added a candle.
My second two cards were a bit more whimsical. One was some birthday presents and one was just a lady holding a cake.
The birthday presents are pretty simple. You just cut some boxes and decorate them! I used dots, gems an cutouts. The lady holding a cake was just a stamp and I pulled out the watercolor paints. I don't focus on coloring perfectly, I just go for a touch of color. I added a button and a purple dot too.
I know, it looks like I didn't spend much time making the cards. I wanted to show you that it takes no time at all to put some cards together and your friends and family will love them. In less than an hour you could make 10 cards for your card stash and never be caught off guard again.
Now to remember to keep them with me!
