I told you last year that my word for this year is Intentional. I explained that I wanted to have a little more thought and meaning in each of my blog posts. I thought I’d check back in and tell you how I think I’ve been doing.
Because I’ve started planning my monthly posts, I feel like I’ve gotten better at being intentional with each post. I have plenty of time to think about it and spend time creating or pre planning for it. Sometimes I swap out posts because the original one didn’t come together or I didn’t like the result but I still am intentional because I’m not just slapping some junk together and showing it to you.
An unexpected benefit that has happened with my pre planning is that I spend more time in my Happy Planner. I have “an excuse” to play with my planner. I can pull out my stickers and play to my heart's content. The “excuse” is that I’m planning. I’m being intentional!
I also have found myself rejecting more ideas. Not that they are terrible ideas. I just find that I have better ideas that I can use. When I decide to go in a different direction, I have to decide why. I have to think about what I didn’t like about the project and what I do like about the replacement.
And when I decide on an idea, I research the post and do my very best when I write it. I don’t phone it in.
Every now and then I get stuck. I’ll write a post that I’m not 100% happy with. But, I don’t beat myself up. I guess you can’t love every post. Some of them are going to drive you crazy and not be your best. As long as you’ve tried, I think it’s ok.
So, yes, I think I have been intentional thus far. Not 100% of the time, but most of the time. And that is what is most important.
